Long Slot Toaster Reviews

Top 5 Best Long Slot Toasters for 2020 (and why you NEED one!)

If you’re looking for the best long slot toaster on the market then you’ve come to the right place! Here’s our Top 5:

#1 Kenmore Elite Long Slot Toaster

Best Overall Long Slot Toaster

The Kenmore Elite long slot toaster is made from a robust, stylish and functional stainless steel and comes packed with lots of neat (and downright cool!) features.

For example, there’s a self-lowering and raise check functionality plus an LED countdown timer so you know how exactly when your toast will be ready.

The Kenmore Elite performed excellently during testing and we found it toasted evenly when cooking anything from bagels to sourdough toast.

It’s so easy to use thanks to the 9 toast settings which gave a more customized heat.

The Kenmore Elite is a little more expensive than the other toasters on test here, however we feel the extra features and excellent toasting quality justify the extra cost.

#2 Breville 4-Slice Long Slot Smart Toaster

Best Long Slot Toaster for Bagels

Breville Long Slot Toaster

If you love the perfect toasted bagel then the Breville 4-Slice long slot toaster is perfect for you!

Why? Because it has a “Bagel mode” feature which concentrates additional heat to the middle heating elements to toast the insides of the cut bagel to perfection without burning the outside. Genius.

It measures 14.9 inches in length and we loved the lift-and-look feature which allows you to sneak a peak and see how your toast is doing without interrupting the toasting process.

Head-to-head we felt that while the Breville performed impressively, the Kenmore held a slight edge and would be our preferred choice unless you are a serious bagel enthusiast – in which case the Breville is the clear winner.

#3 Oda Kitchen 2-Slice Long Slot Toaster

Best 2-Slice Long Slot Toaster

Side Loading Long Slot Toaster

Oda have reinvented the toaster with this really cool and unique design. Instead of loading your bread from the top this is a side-loading long slot toaster.

#4 Oster Long Slot 4-Slice Toaster

Best Budget Long Slot Toaster

Oster 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster

If you liked the Kenmore and Breville toasters reviewed above but found them to be too expensive then the Oster 4-Slice could be the perfect budget option for you.

This 4-slice long slot toaster is made from a robust stainless steel, features 7 toast shade settings and dual auto adjusting bread guides which adjust to the bread thickness for even toasting.

We particularly liked the removable crumbs tray which is dishwasher safe for easy and convenient cleaning.

Overall a solid performer from a renowned brand.

We recommend this as a great budget 4-slide long slot toaster however you should note that it’s not great for toasting bagels (instead opt for the Breville).

Samsung Countertop Microwave Oven Review

Samsung Countertop Microwave Oven – Ultimate Buyer’s Guide

The Samsung Countertop Microwave Oven offers a sleek and stylish design.

Don’t be fooled by it’s good looks, the Samsung is a great microwave toaster oven combo that combines the convenience and speed of a microwave oven with the toasting capabilities of a regular toaster oven.

Samsung Countertop Microwave Oven Review
CHECK LATEST PRICE ON AMAZON

PROS

  • Stylish Design
  • Ceramic interior
  • Digital Control Panel
  • Large Capacity

CONS

  • Not easy to see food cooking
  • Requires larger countertop space

It comes with a grilling element and ceramic plate to prepare crispy foods including pizza.

In a standard microwave oven this would not be possible, however with the Samsung countertop microwave it’s grilling element allows you to cook bread, fish, bacon and any other foods which require a crispy finish for best taste.

Measuring 12.3 by 21.9 by 18 inches, the Samsung countertop microwave oven is larger than most of the other similar appliances we tested.

This is great because the 1.4 cubic foot internal capacity allows you to cook more than just a small pizza or few slices of toast, but obviously it requires more countertop space so you need to measure your kitchen countertop space carefully before ordering one.

Design and Features

It comes down to personal preference, but for me I love the “Shiny mirror design and asymmetric shape” which give this unit a premium look.

On a more practical note, it’s ceramic enamel interior provides enhanced scratch and stain resistance, is easy to clean and maintain – simply wipe away oil or grease from the surface.

Most microwave toaster oven combinations come with presets which make cooking so simple, and I am happy to tell you in this regard the Samsung countertop microwave oven is no exception.

In addition to a choice of ten power levels, you can also use the auto-cook presets to take the guesswork out of cooking foods such as potatoes, pizza, vegetables, poultry and popcorn.

There is a digital control panel which is accompanied by a LED display.

As I mentioned earlier, the highlight of the Samsung MG14H3020CM is the grilling elements which are located at the top of the oven cavity which can be used to make pizza crusts, bagels and more, to become crisp and crunchy.

Samsung Countertop Microwave Oven Performance

I have to be honest and tell you that when I read the power rating of the Samsung Counterop Microwave was 950W, I was concerned that it would not be powerful enough to cook my food properly (note: this is a common issue to look out for when purchasing a microwave toaster oven combination).

Despite my reservations, we tested the Samsung rigourously to assess its performance when cooking everything from pizza to popcorn and let me tell you that it performed like a charm.

Not only did it perform well but we found the digital control panel and presets made cooking really easy.

One word of caution to note is that I read on Amazon a few customers had issues with the door opening mechanism not functioning properly.

This is not something I experienced with my unit but nevertheless you may want to read the customer reviews for yourself before deciding if the Samsung is right for you.

Verdict

Overall, the Samsung Countertop Microwave Oven is a solid performer and the inclusion of a grilling element gives it a one-up on conventional microwave ovens because it allows you to crisp and brown foods such as pizzas and bagels, something you could not do in a standard microwave.

The design is, in my humble opinion, very stylish and will look really neat in your kitchen.

If you are looking for a larger capacity microwave oven toaster combo then the Samsung Countertop Microwave Oven is definitely worth a closer look.

Panasonic Toaster Oven Review

Panasonic Toaster Oven – Ultimate Buyer’s Guide 2020

The Panasonic Toaster Oven (NB-G110p Flash Xpress) is a quirky yet capable microwave toaster oven combo that impressed me with its speed, accuracy and cooking performance.

In fact, the Panasonic performed better than many of the more expensive models from Breville, Cuisinart and Samsung.

Panasonic Toaster Oven Review
CHECK LATEST PRICE ON AMAZON

PROS

  • Cooking Performance
  • Great Value
  • Easy to Use
  • Compact Design

CONS

  • Outdated design
  • Limited capacity

This superior performance is thanks to its use of infrared technology which quickly heats and cooks your food.

The styling is somewhat “retro” and it has a weird temperature setting which shows both centigrade and fahrenheit.

If you can get past that you’ll probably fall in love with it as I did and, over time, the odd features and design will actually become part of its appeal.

I would recommend the Panasonic Toaster Oven to anyone in the market for a microwave toaster oven combo.

It’s particularly suitable if you are looking for a smallish sized appliance, plan to cook a maximum of one or two servings, or are looking for a competitively priced option that also performs well.

Panasonic is the pioneer of utilizing infrared heating technology in microwave toaster ovens.

Unlike toaster ovens that use heating elements and microwave ovens that use electromagnetic wave, the Panasonic Toaster Oven uses infrared technology to quickly heat and cook food.

Design and Features

In terms of style, the Panasonic Toaster Oven is unlikely to win any awards as its design looks somewhat dated.

If you are looking for a stylish, stainless-steel microwave toaster oven combo then this is definitely not the right choice.

But, you know what, it’s sturdily built and over time the quirky design of the Panasonic actually grew on me and now I kinda like it.

That said, no appliance is without its faults and the Panasonic Toaster Oven is no exception.

For instance, the temperature dial is odd-looking (think old am/fm radio tuner) which in itself I could live with.

What I didn’t like is the fact that if you want to cook in fahrenheit you get odd temperatures such as 390 deg F because the dual-scale is primarily oriented to celsius.

This is something I feel Panasonic could have fine-tuned for sales in the United States.

Not a dealbreaker but slightly irritating nonetheless.

What I did like is the fact that it has a cooking range from 250 to 500 degrees fahrenheit giving plenty of flexibility to cook a heap of different food types.

The main selling point of this model is its proprietary double infrared heating technology which, unlike a traditional toaster oven, eliminates the need to preheat whilst retaining the versatility of toasting and baking foods.

The Panasonic Toaster Oven cooks up to 40% quicker than traditional toaster ovens and removes preheating for fast cooking.

It has the following presets whic make cooking your food a cinch: Toast, Reheat Roll, Frozen Pizza, Frozen Hash Brown, Frozen Waffle and Quick Reheat.

It also comes with a 9″ by 9″ cooking pan, removable crumb tray, non-adjustable cooking rack, interior light and a limited one year warranty.

Performance

One big issue I have with buying a microwave tosater oven combo is that many of the models lack power and can be very slow to cook your food.

I had no such issues with the Panasonic Toaster Oven thanks to its double infrared heating system, in fact you have to be careful the first time you use it not to burn your food!

It is really easy to operate, especially if you use a preset.  With only one rack height there is no risk of placing your food too close or far away from the heating elements.

All you have to do is place your food in the oven, select the appropriate preset and hey presto!

While testing the Panasonic Toaster Oven we cooked frozen pizza, toasted bread, roasted chicken drumsticks and made frozen waffles.

Here’s a summary of how it performed:

Frozen Pizza

The frozen pizza preset worked superbly with nicely melted cheese, evenly cooked and the crust was neither too hard nor too chewy.

One thing to be aware of is that the largest pizza you can cook with the Panasonic is a 9″ pizza.

If you plan on cooking 12″ pizzas then you could consider the Oster toaster oven.

Toast

The Panasonic was the best performing microwave toaster oven combo for making toast.

It can cook up to four slices at one time and I found that each of the four slices was evenly toasted when using the light, medium and dark settings.

Performance was extremely consistent and the Panasonic never gave me burnt toast.

Chicken Drumsticks

After several attempts I managed to successfully cook the chicken drumsticks.

The two things that threw me off a little in the beginning were:

  1. The fact that I could not select exactly the temperature I wished in fahrenheit (as discussed above) and
  2. Due to the outstanding cooking performance of the Panasonic I actually discovered that you need to cook a little under the suggested cooking time or you’ll end up burning your chicken drumsticks.

In my case the recommended cooking time was 50 minutes but by experimentation I found the optimum cooking time was 40 minutes.

Once I had this figured out the Panasonic again performed well and cooked some delicious chicken drumsticks!

Frozen Waffle

Cooking perfect frozen waffles was a cinch thanks to the dedicated preset function.

The waffles were cooked perfectly and all it took was the touch of a button.

Verdict

Like most microwave toaster oven combinations, the Panasonic is not perfect.

If you can look past the retro design and quirky control panel though then this is a great choice which will outperform many of it’s pricier competitors.

Of all the microwave toaster oven combos we tested, in my humble opinion none of them performed so much better that the large price disparity seemed worth it.

Not only is it great value for money, but the Panasonic Toaster Oven is a great space-saver which is often am important consideration for most folks.

Overall, the Panasonic is one of the few models that offer no compromise when it comes to choosing a microwave toaster oven combo.

It doesn’t require a long time to preheat like a microwave oven, and thanks to the double infrared heating system it is capable of toasting food and browning just as well as a traditional toaster oven.

Unless you have a particular need for a larger toaster oven to cook 12-inch pizzas, need a toaster oven that can steam cook or require a modern, stylish design, I’d buy the Panasonic Toaster Oven before any of the other models we tested.

Cuisinart CMW 200 – Review & Buyer’s Guide

The Cuisinart CMW 200 is a good microwave toaster oven combo option for most folks.

It has an excellent range of functionality and is affordably priced.

Cuisinart CMW 200 Review

PROS

  • Stylish Design
  • Great Value
  • Easy to Use

CONS

  • Power Rating

Cuisinart CMW 200 Design and Features

The dark tinted glass and brushed stainless steel exterior makes this is a good looking machine.

The interior is also stainless steel which is a nice feature because it is easy to sanitize and does not absorb any odors.

It has an LCD display with touchpad controls, and this is where the magic happens…

The Cuisinart CMW 200 has 9 preset options: beverage, fresh vegetable, cake, potato, popcorn, frozen vegetable, roast chicken and pizza.

In addition, it has a really neat multi-stage cooking option, an advanced technology which automatically shifts from one function to another.

For example, you can defrost a casserole for 10 minutes, bake in the microwave at 100% power for 5 minutes then grill for 1 minute to melt the cheese to top-brown the casserole.

The Cuisinart CMW 200 includes a rotating 12 inch glass tray, reversible grill rack, recipe book and a limited 3-year warranty.

It has a 1.2 cubic foot (32 litres) capacity and measures 21.20 inches (length) by 19.00 inches (width) by 12.2 inches (height).

If you are installing this in a cabinet you should ensure there is at least 6 inches clearance at the back to allow sufficient ventilation to prevent the unit overheating.

Performance

Overall, the Cuisinart CMW 200 performed well during testing, although we felt that the 1,000 watt power output was a little lacking at times.

The two most impressive (and useful!) settings for us were the defrost functions and convection baking.

The defrost function is very simple, you can choose to defrost food by weight or by time.

The convection baking option ensures food is cooked evenly and in a faster time, with no burned edges or frozen centres.

The Cuisinart CMW 200 can bake or roast with or without the microwave function.

Verdict

If you are looking for a microwave toaster oven combo then the Cuisinart CMW 200 is a good choice!

It features a stylish design, good functionality and offers great value for money given all the things you can do with it.

Bella Toaster Oven – Ultimate Buyer’s Guide 2020

The Bella toaster oven is a great performer, albeit a lesser known brand than some of the other choices reviewed by our testers.

It has 5 preset settings and simple dials which make it very easy to use.

Bella Toaster Oven Design and Features

The Bella toaster oven has a 12 liter capacity and measures 15.55 by 10.83 by 8.23 inches.

The simple dials and stylish brushed metal design make this an attractive toaster oven and one you would be happy to place on display in your kitchen.

It has five preset functions (bake, toast, broil, bagel and warm) which are very user-friendly as you simply select the appropriate setting for the type of cooking required.

In addition, it has a 30-minute timer, ready indicator light, cool touch handle (nice safety feature!)

It also has a toast shade selector to guarantee you perfectly cooked toast every time.

Performance

With a 1,200 watt power output, and quartz heating technology, the Bella toaster oven cooked evenly and quickly when we put it through a range of tests including chicken, toast, salmon, bagels and a 9 inch pizza.

There is also an external crumb tray which we really liked as it makes keeping the Bella toaster oven clean an absolute breeze.

As with most toaster ovens, the exterior does get pretty hot when cooking so you will need to ensure that there is sufficient space around the top and back of the toaster oven.

Verdict

Overall, we were impressed with the Bella toaster oven because it’s easy to use, toasts well in all five of the preset settings and the removable crumb tray makes cleaning a breeze.
